Actually, the image is a combination of photos of a relief print. The print is made using the spring from a snare drum, printed with a press. The circles were drawn with a pencil after printing, using a platter removed from a hard disk as a template (a pair of these platters are used as printing plates in a later version of the print).

The print was photographed and manipulated to make the final image.
